Terrific Tiramisù

Updated: Nov 29, 2020

One of the world’s best desserts is one of the easiest to make!

Nutrition:

This recipe is a reformulation of the traditional tiramisù made with mascarpone and pavesini biscuits. It is a healthier option made with ricotta cheese instead of mascarpone and milk biscuits instead of pavesini. While mascarpone is rich in saturated fatty acids, ricotta contains less fat and is a great source of calcium, which is important for growth and for strengthening your bones and teeth. It also contains a good amount of protein (10.1 g for 100g) to build muscles and it is rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is the well-being hormone. Therefore, ricotta can help you to improve your mood and reduce stress. Recent studies have found out that the addition of curcumin in ricotta can enhance its properties, thereby increasing the protein and the calcium content. Ricotta also contains probiotic bacteria like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli. The high moisture content, the low salt content and a pH level above 6 makes ricotta cheese a favourable environment for the survival of these commensal bacteria which are the “good” bacteria which helps us to fight against diseases.
