Terrific Tahini

Shuffle, shake, and stir your sesame seeds until you get this beautiful blend of black tahini!

Nutrition:

Sesame is a crop that is native in tropical areas such as Asia, Africa and South America. There are two main varieties: black and white. Black sesame seeds have a stronger and nuttier flavour than the white ones. They are usually added to food to provide a crunchy texture and a nutty flavour. However, they can also be ground to create tahini, which is a condiment used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries. One of the main health benefits that they provide is the cholesterol-lowering effect. They contain some plant compounds such as lignans and phytosterols, that help lower cholesterol. Moreover, they are a very good source of calcium and magnesium, two minerals linked to better blood pressure control. They contain 25% of protein and 10% of fibre. Sesame seeds also contain some compounds called sesamin and sesamolin which have strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties. They scavenge the free radicals in the body, and they fight against staph infections, skin fungi and oral bacteria. Tahini is nowadays a big culinary trend, as it is used as a healthy alternative to mayonnaise and to reduce dairy fats in ice-cream.
