Homemade Peanut Butter 🥜

All you need is one ingredient... a special prize for anyone who can guess the ingredient! 🧐

Nutrition

Peanut butter is an energy dense food that contains a significant amount of lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. These macronutrients are essential for boosting energy as well as body fat and muscle build-up. Peanut butter is used to combat malnutrition in underdeveloped countries (it is cheaper than the other nuts) and is used to reduce incidents of cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes. It is a rich source of protein as the peanuts contain all of the essential amino acids. Therefore, it could be an optimal choice for vegans who are unable to eat animal products and for athletes, as it provides a high amount of energy (e.g. 100 g of peanut butter contains 588 calories).

It is suggested to be careful with the consumption of peanut butter as it can cause allergies that are fatal. It also has a high fat content that is disproportionate to its size. However, it is important to note that the contained fat is mainly unsaturated. Unsaturated fatty acids are the healthy fats which are beneficial for glucose and insulin homeostasis as well as for lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease via cholesterol reduction. Moreover, peanut butter is recognised as a functional food due to the presence of fibre and magnesium that also contribute to reducing the risk of coronary heart disease, type-2 diabetes and the overall mortality.

What You Need

Peanuts!

Peanut oil (optional)

Maple syrup (optional)

Cocoa powder (optional)

Cinnamon (optional)

Method

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Start by grinding your peanuts until they form a substance that looks and feels similar to sand. At this point, place your substance into a blender and blend very slowly in a start stop manner until the peanuts produce a paste.

Once finished, place into a serving jar and your peanut butter is ready!

If you want to add a little kick, you can play around with adding a little peanut oil or any oil, maple syrup, cocoa powder, cinnamon or any spice that suits your needs.

And there you have it... serve in a nice warm bowl of porridge 🥣 or on a slice of brown bread. 🍞
