Caprese Salad 🍅🥗🌿

Did someone say 🗣 “MOZZARELLA”? This family sharing salad platter is both cheesy and healthy!

Nutrition:

Caprese salad is a typical dish from Capri in Lazio, Italy and it is made of only two ingredients: tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Although tomatoes are treated as vegetables, they are actually fruit and they belong to the nightshade family (aubergines, peppers and potatoes). Tomatoes are a good source of vitamins including vitamin A which improves your eyesight, vitamin C which improves your immune system and vitamin K which improves your blood clotting and wound healing. They also contain a bioactive compound called lycopene, which is a potent antioxidant that displays cardioprotective properties and it is responsible for the red colour of the tomatoes.

Mozzarella cheese originates from Southern Italy. Although excess consumption of mozzarella is not recommended due to the fat content, mozzarella provides a variety of nutritional benefits: it contains calcium, which is essential for growth and for preventing diseases such as osteoporosis or atherosclerosis. It is a rich source of B vitamins, including vitamin B7 (biotin) that stops your nails being brittle and vitamin B2 (riboflavin) that counteracts anaemia and migraine. It is also a good source of phosphorus, which improves calcium absorption and reduces muscle soreness and fatigue.
